Philippine Airlines MNL-DRW-BNE?

Postby Brandon Giacomin » Sat Oct 20, 2012 2:47 pm

I have just had a look through the November Monthly International Schedule and it is showing Philippine Airlines commencing flights from December 1 from MNL-DRW-BNE with Airbus A320s every Saturday.

PR221 MNL/DRW 10:00 320 01-DEC-12
PR222 MNL/DRW 11:00 320 01-DEC-12

Does anyone know anything about this? As seen in the past, the BNE monthly schedule isn't always reliable, so it could just be a mistake. However Philippines recently announced there intentions to commence operating to Darwin. But a weekly service to BNE via Darwin with an A320 doesn't make sense to me.

There is speculation on another board that Philippines will re-start flights to Brisbane. And I was wrong about weekly services, the BNE Monthly schedule only goes to December 1 so I would guess it will more likely be two or three flights weekly.

From travelweekly.com.au

Philippines Airlines is making plans to re-enter the Queensland market with twice weekly flights from Manila to Brisbane via Darwin.

The services have been pencilled in to start in very early December using A320 aircraft, Travel Today understands.

PAL last operated flights to the Queensland capital in 2010 with an A330 triangular service with Melbourne. But they didn’t last long.

It began flights in March after a 10-year hiatus but pulled them again in October, blaming market conditions.

But the airline is exploring the possibility of trying again, this time with a smaller 156-capacity aircraft and operating via the Northern Territory.

Sources said PAL will operate mid morning flights on a Tuesday and Saturday from Brisbane with the first service due to arrive in Queensland on December 1.

“The airline recently said they are keen to start flights to Darwin, and Brisbane may very well be best served with a smaller aircraft until they deem fit to upgauge to the larger A330 or 777,” the source said.

Philippine Airlines declined to confirm or deny the launch, saying only it was exploring opportunities.

“Philippine Airlines has a business review team examining its entire international network including several potential expansion opportunities, however no final decisions have been made at this time,” a spokesman said.

It's official, twice weekly MNL-DRW-BNE (Tuesday and Saturday), in 1000 out 1100 effective December 10. A320 will operate the route. Also a twice weekly MNL-DRW-MEL service. So DRW 4x weekly, MEL 5x weekly and BNE 2x weekly.

From another forum

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is adding Darwin and re-introduces Brisbane to its growing international network starting December 10 with four flights per week using Airbus 320 aircraft, reports from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) bared yesterday.

PR flight 221 leaves Manila at 22:30 every Monday and Friday arriving Darwin at 04:30 the following day, with departures at 05:30 for Brisbane every Saturday and Tuesday arriving 10:00. For days Sunday and Wednesday PR 221 leaves Manila at 21:10 arriving Darwin at 03:10 with departure at 4:10 for Melbourne every Monday and Thursday arriving at 10:00.

The return flight PR222 will leave 11:00 from Brisbane arriving Darwin 15:30 with departure at 16:30, and Melbourne arriving Darwin at 16:50 leaving 17:50 for Manila arriving 22:30 and 23:55 the same day, respectively.

"The flights to Darwin will proceed to Melbourne and Brisbane" according to CAB Hearing Examiners Division Chief Ma. Elben S. L. Moro.

PAL currently flies Manila-Sydney every Monday,Wednesday,Friday, and Sunday and Manila-Melbourne route every Tuesday,Thursday, and Saturday respectively using Boeing 777-300ER planes.

The four additional routes will be serviced by Airbus A320 aircraft which doesn't have the range to fly Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane direct from Manila but can reach Darwin for technical stop onwards to those destination.

The flag carrier is also working on a twice a week service to New Zealand via Australia starting next year.
