Trip Report: Tiger Airways BNE-SYD-BNE (Photos)

Postby Brandon Giacomin » Mon Feb 04, 2013 8:51 pm

Introduction:

Back in September Tiger Airways had a really good sale. It was $19.95 one-way to Sydney. Since it was so cheap I decided to do a daytrip to Sydney. I booked TT724 to Sydney and TT807 back to Brisbane for Saturday 2 February. All up with fees and seat selection it cost me just under $70 return!

Brisbane Airport:

I left home just before 6:30am and got to BNE at around 7am. Tiger Airways currently do not have online check in so I had to check in at the airport which was quick and easy. Passed through security and went up to the boarding gates. Had a look around at what was there before taking a seat at my gate.

VH-VQQ has just arrived from NTL and would then fly BNE-MKY-BNE-NTL-MEL-LST-MEL

It was just the normal stuff for BNE. Saw OEH taxiing out to RWY19 for the quick hop down to SYD after flying in from DFW. Just before 8am, my Tiger arrived and it was VH-VNF which is a first for me. It was a very quick turnaround and boarding commenced on time for the trip down to Sydney.

The flight was full. We taxied out to RWY19 and took off down south. We seemed to level off quite low near Archerfield and then a Qantas Boeing 737-800 whizzed over the top of us :D so then we continued the climb.

After a quick cruise we began our descent into Sydney. We were told that Sydney was experiencing bad weather and that it was quite windy! We went into clouds and didn’t come out until about 20 minutes later! I could tell we were going to land on 16L or R, as we got closer I could see we were going for RWY16L.

We taxied to the terminal and parked about 10 minutes ahead of schedule.

I caught the train across to the international and went up to the observation deck for some spotting!

Here are the photos I took whilst there.

After about 3 hours at the observation I caught the train back to the domestic. I checked in for the return flight without any issues, went through security, grabbed something to eat and then found a good spot to watch the action.

Boarding commenced on time. I took seat 8F on VNF for the second time that day. The load on this flight I would estimate was about 75%, the two seats next to me were free. We taxied out to RWY16L and took off on time.

We were getting blown around a fair bit on finals. And as we neared touchdown we were hit by a wind gust and had a nice hard touchdown on one wheel! The cabin on the A320 really shakes when full thrust and braking is applied! We taxied to the gate and disembarked.

Walked to the pickup area just as my mum pulled in and I went home!

Conclusion:

It was another enjoyable daytrip. The flights were good and spotting in Sydney was great. Saw some new aircraft like the Air China 777, Air Niugini 737-800, special China Eastern A330...

My next trip is down to Melbourne later this month and early next month for 4 nights to go to the Avalon Airshow :D

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the review and great photos. You know something it's just re enforced to me how crap and boring Perth airport is. The same aircraft and small variety of airlines that operate out of here every single day. We get really excited when we see a 737. We also have the oldest dinosaurs plying the skies here, ancient 25 year old Fokka 50's.

Aaron, you should try OOL. We get excited when a Chinese registered G5 comes in.

Bit of respect for the old girls! (F50's)

Looking at booking a sector just to ride one when I'm over the west side next year (If it's not already too late)

I reckon Perth get a pretty decent variety. Not as good as the three main Aussie airports but you still do alright. Only PER and MEL get Qatar but only Perth sees them in daylight, daily SAA A340s, Air Mauritius. Malaysian in daylight, in Brisbane they come in at night. You also get a good variety of regional airliners like the awesome BAe-146s and F50s. The poor guys in ADL only get SQ, CX, MH, NZ and EK internationally! OOL only get AAX, NZ and Jetstar (who all fly to Perth) as well as Scoot.
