ADL close to securing more international flights

Postby lloyd fox » Fri Apr 30, 2010 2:01 pm

Adelaide Airport is close to
securing more international
services as it continues to lobby
Asian airlines to fly into the city.

The only new services i can thin of is maybe MH and QF81 going daily.

New airlines could be Air Asia, Thai and Garuda.

Tony, interesting you should quote Thai, as far as I am aware it is not on the radar but in 1991 it was supposed to start ADL BKK, but maybe it is the future airline. Shame EK won't go to ADL at the moment.

Maybe Garuda could return with 737-800s instead of the A330s they used to use.

Morning all,

I think either Garuda or Air Asia Indonesia would be 2 possibilities to compete with Pacific blue who currently dominating the run. Air Asia X I don't think will be for a little while, as i think they are trying to mainly focus on Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth.

Even Jetstar using either A320's or A330's to Asian destinations. Also one of the chinese airlines Air China, China Eastern or Southern I rekon would also be in the mix.

Tony and Stefan i think are pretty much on the mark i believe

I will also add Tiger Singapore via DRW but i would take out Garuda

Indo Air Asia,Thai,Tiger,Dont think GA at this stage or a Chinese carrier at this stage.

Thai would be good to get, but would it viable to be a direct flight or would it be better to triangulate with the night flight to Melbourne.

I don't think a chinese carrier would eventuate at least for another couple of years, but would be nice to continue getting charter flights like we did this year.

It is a strong possiblility that these flights will be either afternoon or even night flights.

So Emirates are no longer interested or just mothballed but not discounted the idea?

The emirates rumour has been floating around for a while. I will believe it when I see it.

Not for a few years. Recently Etihad was mentioned, but that will not eventuate.

I think Asia is the major focus for Adelaide. Securing some more routes in Asia I think is high on the priotity list.

The latest on Emirates is that they've indicated they won't be flying to ADL while there's a curfew in force.

"Speaking yesterday at The West Australian's Leadership Matters series, Emirates divisional vice-president commercial Richard Vaughan warned that the airline would not fly to Adelaide because of its curfew. "When Adelaide wakes, we might be interested," he said."
