Currently all RSAF are static only though.

Hopefully there will be a good international aerial draw card....still think the most likely candidate will be a F35...But I think that is a very slim chance.

Edit: just re read the official site...says mockup of F35... gawd.... :(

Incidentally, the USAF is sending a couple of F16s (plus a KC135 and C17) to the RNZAF 80th celebration at Ohakea in late Feb. Maybe these will find their way to Avalon?

Plus supposedly some aircraft from Singapore, Malaysia and Japan heading to it. whilst I am drawing a long bow here, but the dates overlap for each....

I'm pretty sure Ohakea is the weekend before Avalon, seems likely it was planned that way to leverage off each other. I would imagine most of the international stuff attending NZ should hopefully end up at Avalon too.

Good to see the RSAF finally bringing the F-15 to Avalon, hopefully they rethink the static though... gawd it's been a long time since i've seen an F-15 in the air. Would love to see even a small aerial display!

As for international drawcard... there seems to be inferences in some comments on their fb page to there being a major announcement shortly, with a few hinting towards F-35. Who knows, wouldn't totally surprise me as the USAF did sent it to a couple of UK airshows last year. Time will tell...

Indeed, the timing is so good it can't be coincidental....Plus pretty well most international aircraft at Ohakea would be coming via Aus anyhow....

I saw some RSAF F15SGs at an airshow at Mountain Home in Idaho a couple of years ago. Whilst it was great to see them in the air, the display was very 'meh'. As in a few passes over the runway... But at any rate, would be great to see them in the air again if not only for photo opportunities!

Yep, I would love to see the F35 in the air...Saw a couple on static at the same Mountain Home airshow (and interestingly there were some Aussies answering questions from the crowd at the F35s). But to see one put through its paces in the air would be good. We shall see...

The RNZAF B757-200 (Static Display) only shows as trade days now.

Also with the RSAF F15SG, KC135R and C130H Hercules now attending, the SUPER PUMA and PC-21 have been removed from the aircraft list.

Great to see the F15, and like others it would be great to see it taken off static display and put in for a flying display. I remember the USAF F15 displays from the 2001 airshow and they were awesome.

I really do wish the RNZAF 757 would do a flying display. I've seen it many times, mostly at airshows in NZ, and it is a great display. I think the RNZAF pilots are trying to compensate for not having any fighters any more, so they really throw it around a lot. I would actually rate it is one of the best aerial displays I've ever seen...and I've seen many over the years...

Gutted that the RSAF F-15SG's will be static. I have seen them fly many times in Darwin over the years and they are a beast of a jet, a step up from the standard USAF C's. I won't be there early enough to see them arrive so will have to hang around to see them depart but of course nothing like a full on display..

F-35 wise, from what I hear we should see them but it's not over the line yet. USMC....there is a demo team as well. F-22 I've got no idea but hearing they should be here, along with B-1B and few others bits and pieces. Theme of the show is Lightning strikes so enough hints there I think.

Isn't the theme 'Air Power in Action'? I've not seen Lightning Strikes mentioned anywhere....It is a little over a month away and still very quiet on the news front. A bit disconcerting, IIRC the headliners were normally announced in December in previous years..But then, a lot can happen in a month. Still hoping for good news.

That's the main theme yes but there is another that has been announced called Lightning Strikes, a billboard also has it

Big announcements coming soon, going to be a lot of aircraft! I know 12 F-22's are supposed doing an exercise in Tindal soon so likely to see a big number of them as well.

I'm not sure if it's an official 'theme' or not, but I believe that it is on at least one billboard on the Princes Fwy, so a subtle hint possibly. It will probably become their main theme 'if' the F-35 is eventually confirmed.

One thing I learned recently that has given me a bit of confidence though, apparently this years Heritage Flight Conference in Tucson is being held on the second weekend of February. Its generally mandatory for all the US based display pilots to attend & for a while now its always been held around last wk of Feb/first wk of March, which has often clashed with Avalon and caused issues in getting the 'official' display pilot here - the static F-22 in 2011 and 2015 being notable examples. With that clash now avoided this year, that gives me a bit more confidence that we may well see the Langley based F-22 demo team back this year and/or the F-35 team from Luke. Hopefully both! :D

Ah thanks for that, pretty conclusive proof ;)

Fingers crossed for a flying display by one of them...At any rate, I still plan to go as there are quite a few things on the air display I would still like to see.

Is this definite? I don't see this announced anywhere? It would be fantastic if so...

I do note the official site says United States Air Force, Navy, Army and Marine Corps...but the aircraft shown are only Air Force and Navy. Could be a typo...just seems odd...unless there is still more to come...
