The media release stated 14 US aircraft, so not including other countries.

Also, the media release states that "The United States is just one of seven overseas militaries that will be bringing aircraft to the event". I have seen USA, NZ, Singapore and Japan, which makes four. If you add in US Navy, US Army and US Marine Corps that does bring it to seven, although they are part of the United States.

Hopefully a demo F35(B?) in there...I've mentioned earlier there is the RNZAF Jubilee airshow in NZ the weekend before. Some of the Avalon attendees are going to that as well (USAF F16s, RSAF F15SGs etc). There are supposed to be aircraft from Japan, Malaysia and UK (RAF) there. But none of this confirmed yet. But it is certainly in the bounds of reason these are going to be aircraft attending both events.

But the use of the word militaries could certainly refer to the various US attendees....But then I note that only the USAF and US Navy is accounted for. The Apache is listed but under Boeing, not under the US attendees. There is no aircraft in the list that is USMC (still hoping this will be a F35B demo). So we still don't have 7 different militaries yet....

The 2 F-35 rumoured to attend are supposed to be the RAAF examples, which wouldn't count as part of the US aircraft contingent I would have thought? (even though they are part of the international training pool at Luke)

Maybe extra support aircraft or tankers? You'd need more than one KC-135 for all those aircraft, surely?

I'm still hopeful we might get something from the RAF (UK). Looking at the trade days program, there appears to be a delegation from the RAF in attendance, including the Chief of Staff. You would think they might support the show with aircraft too. Hopefully something fast and pointy, but more likely a tanker/transport I would guess.

Also reading between the lines, anyone notice the header image on the latest Media Release? They're now using the one with the F-35 on it, previous ones featured F-22/F-18/F-16. Maybe a sign that the official announcement isn't far away?

Ok interesting...I was hoping the A400 would be at public days this time. I do have mixed feelings about the military lineup. There are a fair amount of statics...but not that many aerial displays.

Still, i am thinking that will all be washed away when I watch the F22 tear up the sky....and I'll have a big grin on my face....

Agreed. From the list of international types currently on their site, by my count 12 of the 15 are static at this stage... looks like the flying display will once again be basically an ADF show with just a couple of visitors.

A bit disappointing, but it is what it is I suppose, I try to remind myself to be grateful for whatever we get, no International military is obligated to send anything really. Like Dougal, I will still have fun regardless :D

Yes, I think it will still be a good day out. I do enjoy some of the civillian performers as well, especially the aerobatic teams. I forget the name of them, but especially the team that did the pyrotechnic display where there was the wall of fire and they flew by that...very cool.

I am a NZer so I do think back to what sort of aircraft were at airshows in NZ....For most of my childhood and teenage years there wasn't even a single USAF aircraft at any airshows (for example). Plus the RNZAF Jubilee in NZ the week before Avalon is only getting a small fraction of what is coming to Avalon. So whilst we are not getting the best it could be, we are certainly not getting the worst it could be.

Yeah I can't wait. Looking forward to just being there amongst it all. I especially love the loud, fast stuff and whilst I hope some more big stuff will come, I'm more than happy with what's been confirmed so far. I'm also looking forward to seeing Connie and the Convair, but generally I enjoy most of the action and the static displays.

It will be interesting to see if anything else big gets confirmed, but if not, I will still greatly enjoy it :D

The ABC has confirmed the F-35 will be the star attraction at the Avalon Air Show to be held outside Melbourne at the end of February.

An official familiar with planning for the event said secrecy surrounding the cutting-edge technology on the JSF had complicated arrangements, including finding a suitable hangar for the aircraft.
