Avalon sightings.

Postby AdamS » Sun May 10, 2009 12:35 pm

Not sure if it has been discussed here previously before or not, however would just like to throw in the idea of having an "Avalon noteworthy movements/sightings" thread in the 'Melbourne' forum to go along with the existing Melbourne and Essendon airports' threads?

As someone who travels in the area occasionally I for one would be interested to find out planned arrival/departure times for any non-jetstar flights in and out of Avalon.
eg. Qantas aircraft for maintenance, freight aircraft etc.

Your thoughts? Any info or ideas?
Cheers.

I recon Cairns and Darwin should have one before Avalon.

Yes, that idea sounds more appropriate.

Are these regular and do they run to a rough schedule?

I remember seeing a 734 about a month back performing a 'test flight' (?)
from MEL or AVV to Hamilton(Vic) or thereabouts and after a few circles around the area, flew back to MEL for a commercial flight to SYD.

I recon Cairns and Darwin should have one before Avalon.

True, I agree these are more 'important' airports, although they do technically already have respective threads.

Or is the suggestion that an "Avalon" thread would be better located in the "other cities....." forum as opposed to the "Melbourne" forum?

The question is, whats defined as a noteworthy movement for Avalon tho? Given the amount of QF touch and goes and training circuits, are these considered noteworthy?

Personally speaking, these said training circuits and 'touch and goes' are movements I wouldn't mind seeing take place when out and about in the Avalon area.

I'd imagine these flights would work to a very rough schedule, more to the point of an 'as needed basis', although is it at all possible to make public (on this forum) any upcoming known times for such movements, every now and then?

QF747 VH-OJB was heard departing Avalon today at approx 10:50, bound (according to SYD airport website) for Sydney as QF6196.

**Edit**
This flight was noted landing at MEL RWY27 just after 11am, then parking at Gate 66

Fog causing a few problems down Avalon this morning, most inbound flights diverting to Melbourne. Few Sydney flights canceled.

JQ7981 landed from Melbourne around 1015am
