An F18 had to use the hook cable today causing all sorts of strife for arriving aircraft. Lots of "I'm on min fuel let me go first" calls.

When an aircraft takes the western cable, it drags it through the intersection of the runways, making both runways unusable. The aircraft was removed within about 5-10 minutes, however when the incident first occurred, a C210 reported 5 minutes of holding fuel.

There were further issues after the aircraft was removed and the cable restored. The F18 dropped hydraulic fluid on the runway on landing. It wasn't a problem for aircraft operations on the runway, but if you leave it there for too long, it dissolves the bitumen. That is a problem for operations. Took another 5-10 minutes to wash that away.

Spotters!;

Anyone know what's going on today, 20 June, with these?

QF6021 B734 from Melbourne... DIA website departures then has this flight number continuing on to Jakarta?

QF6029 B734 from Auckland via Brisbane. (Best guess is a jetconnect machine going to Singa's for maintenance?)

JQ7992 A320 from Sydney

Unfortunately with DIA's primitive online arrivals/departures offering it's too early to see where the second 737 and the a320 are going to.

Also Strategic A320 is in town, VH-YQB from Denpasar. Appeared to be empty coming in, about to depart for Brisbane.

Cheers

My guess is it might be extra flights for the V8 Super Cars that was on over the weekend, although that is just a guess.

QF6029 was a ZK- registered B734. QANTAS logo painted over, as well as the kangaroo on the tail. My undertanding is that it was proceeding overseas for maintenance.

An interesting evening yesterday, with the volcanic ash. QF844 from YSCB arrived around 6pm and departed after a quick 35 min turn around. Unusual to have Qantas at Darwin at that time of day.

Did anyone get a registration for the IL76 that passed through Darwin earlier today as VDA4398? It came in from Jakarta and has headed for Port Hedland.

Not 100% sure for this one, but normally when we get QF Dash 8's, they are the Aircruising Australia chartered aircraft. They fly under the call sign 'cruiser'.

The DH8B departed as 'Q Link 299' to Kununurra, about 1pm.
