PER to add anymore International Airlines

Postby LMcConville » Fri Jul 06, 2012 2:27 am

Two new airlines have joined us recently, China Southern and Qatar Airways. Anymore prospective users and routes to/from PER. Post any new links to stories or news about any rumour or definite news story about new routes and new airlines to come and serve PER. PER is Australia's fourth largest airport. Let's see if any more airlines want to make it bigger!

TIMOR AIR

Air Transport World reports that Timor Air is set to fly again. Timor Air axed their Darwin - Dili services which were operated by Vincent Aviation using Saab 340B prop planes. They are now apparently to be restarted using an unnamed jet operator. AirNorth appears to be winning out on this route, in part due to their faster services using Embraer 170 jets.

Timor Air axed their Darwin - Dili services Timor Air signs partnership with jet carrier, CEO says
atwonline.com, 17 May 2012

Timor Air (BF) has confirmed it signed a memorandum of understanding with a partner carrier and is gearing up for jet operations.

Newly appointed CEO James Stewart Kim, managing director of AvCon Worldwide Ltd., told ATW that the fledgling airline expects to start jet operations in “three to four months time” after entering into an agreement with AvCon, a London-based aviation consulting firm, to manage the business.

BF launched last July in a partnership with Vincent Aviation and had served the daily Dili (DIL)-Darwin (DRW) route. Last week Australian media reported the carrier ceased operations.

However, Kim told ATW that “on the same date” of the reports, “I was signing a deal with a jet operator for a partnership deal to operate jet aircraft.” Kim declined to name the operator “until we complete the regulatory process as per our agreement with our partner carrier. It is a current scheduled carrier of another country,” he said in an email, adding, “We actually planned to keep this jet operation news confidential for a while but we have decided to release it as we do not want any more speculative rumors around.”

The carrier had one SAAB 340B in its fleet, operated by Vincent Aviation.

According to Kim, the Saab 340’s “slower cruising speed” and “limitation of luggage allowance” made it difficult for the carrier to compete against Darwin-based Airnorth’s Embraer E-170 on the DIL-DRW route.

“Timor Air appointed me as its CEO last month and I have completed a deal to operate jet aircraft on Dili-Darwin route as well as other routes we are planning,” he told ATW.

According to a BF statement, initial planned routes will also include DIL-Perth using larger aircraft, which will offer “up to 124 seats in a two-class configuration, including 12 business class seats.” BF said it is also planning to launch services to Denpasar and Singapore.

I know these rumors have been going on for years, however there are rumors Etihad wish to startup in November. That however has not yet been reported by the airline itself.

virgin Alantic wish to startup Perth after Melbourne when they receive their Boeing 787's.

Kenya Airways wish start up Perth from Kenya direct in 2017 when they receive their Boeing 787's.

QUESTION: Where do you guys find out your news, I tend to just google the keywords however you guys might do different.

Etihad would not surprise me, however I highly doubt VS will go near PER anytime soon as I do recall an article saying that it would not be viable and would opt for a VA codeshare.

In answer to your other question, I gain a lot of information for contacts within the industry and at times approaching the airlines themselves.

Etihad will most likely be delayed due to EK announcing more flights and QR going daily.

How about Vietnam airlines? They currently fly to Sydney and Melbourne and plan to start a Brisbane service shortly, as well as eyeing Adelaide as a potential destination (according the the Adelaide airport Wikipedia).

So what are there possibilities on starting a Perth service in the future? It's stated within the next 10 years they will aquire an additional 70 aircraft to their fleet and they are going to have to fly somewhere...

There not actually eyeing Adelaide, just Adelaide wants Vietnam Airlines to come to ADL. [On Wiki Page; Adelaide Airport]

If thats the case, then thank you for clearing it up... I can now break the bad news to my friend in ADL that they're not actually looking to fly there!

But despite that, what do you think about the possibility of a future service? Right now it may be minimal however there's always time for change in the future...
