It will be good to see the latest RAAF toys in the flesh. I wonder what time they (especially the F35s) will arrive on the Friday though? Hopefully during the public part of the day...I wish they were doing a flying display, but I think it is unrealistic to expect that when they are brand spanking new.

Maybe the Growler will partake in the simulated base attack that usually is staged? I know unlikely...but...

What a tough line up frontline fighters the organisers have done this time. This is no doubt a world class and world leading airshow which is now getting better and better as time rolls on. I hope everyone can just get an understanding the amount of preparation, costs and logistics it would involve to organise so many leading fighters in the one area for public viewing. 'Killer respect' to the Avalon Airshow, they had this years motto 'Air Power In Action' and they have delivered big time!!! Lastly, whatever doesn't fly this year has either flown already at Avalon or we will see it fly or it will definitely fly at the next Airshow, to see the JSF, F-22, F-15SG, Superhornet, Classic Hornet, F-16, B-1B, Growler, C-17 and others will be a privilege to say the least.....BRING IT ON!!!!!!

Awesome news. It doesn't state on the Avalon Airshow website that the Growler and F-35 will be static only, so maybe flying??????

If only we could get a formation flyby of all the fast and pointy jets....F22, F35, F16, F15SG, Classic Hornet, Super Hornet and Growler....Or even just the RAAF ones would be awesome...

Cool video. Just wondering if there is a webpage to access the military arrivals into Avalon in a couple of weeks?

Cheers
Ben.

Does anyone have an idea when the jets will start arriving at Avalon? Be good to go down there and see the aircraft that are going to be static, arriving .

The F-35 will be static, according to the Avalon website (below)

Although the rumour (at this stage) is that they are expected to arrive on Friday somewhere around 1100-1200, so that could be the best opportunity to see them in the air. Fingers crossed for a few flybys and missed approaches before landing!

The mighty Joint Strike Fighter will make its Australian Debut at Airshow 2017.

Two of these state-of-the-art combat aircraft will be flown directly from their base in the United States where they are currently being used to train Australian pilots.

...

See it as part of the Airshow’s extensive ground display of military aircraft.

Is there a place that can be used as a viewing area to watch them come in? As the gates won't be open to the public then...

If you buy a Gold Pass you can access the airshow all day on Friday, however it will set you back $190. Apart from that you could view the arrivals from the roads at either end of the runway, although I think parking is quite restricted during the airshow, at least on Beach Road. There may be viewing opportunities at the airport terminal, however as I'm not a local I'm not really sure.

Unfortunately I'll probably miss their arrival as I don't arrive in Melbourne until Friday morning and don't think I'll be able to get to Avalon by 11am.

Ok, thanks. I've done the Gold Pass in previous years and am reluctant to spend the cash on it again. Still, could be good to have a wander around the statics on the morning without the crowds... But the weather is such an important aspect of the airshow, and I prefer to wait until the week to decide what days I go. By then the Gold Pass is mostly sold out, and if not it is only the crappy stands further along that have places...and they are just a waste of money....

If I can see them fly in that would be great. But then, the F35s are going to be a ubiquitous feature of airshows in Aus in the future, so I don't feel a great deal of urgency.

Sadly its looking like a display of Aircraft, not an Airshow this year.

The actual flying time decreases each year.
